How a Hippie Childhood Helped Me Overcome Life's Challenges 🤔

vlog Mar 09, 2023

The six words "YOU WILL NEVER AMOUNT TO NOTHING!" were the greatest catalyst to my success. Growing up as a child of a hippie who placed faith in gems and horoscopes was an unpredictable journey. Although my mother meant well and did not want me to aspire to live in rural Nebraska, I quickly learned to see through lies, manage stress with superhuman powers, and avoid scams due to my upbringing as a child of a criminal hippie. I worked three jobs to achieve my goals and escape that lifestyle.

At 18, I worked in a meat packing plant, cleaned motel bathrooms, and waited tables at a truck stop. When an opportunity to work for a trucking company arose in the late 90s, it felt like I was holding a winning hand in poker. However, I later realized that this was no game, and my success was due to my Millisa Genius - a combination of my unique abilities and life experiences. Although I did not receive a formal higher education, the school of hippie living taught me invaluable skills. My brain was wired for a life of success, like a royal flush.

Life is unpredictable, and we all face challenges that can be difficult to overcome. However, the good news is that there are ways to overcome these obstacles and come out stronger on the other side. As someone who grew up as a child of a hippie, I've had my fair share of unique challenges to overcome. In this blog post, I'll share some of the lessons I've learned along the way, as well as practical tips for overcoming life's challenges.

Lesson #1: Embrace Your Uniqueness

Growing up with a hippie mother who believed in gems and horoscopes meant that I was exposed to unconventional ways of thinking from a young age. However, instead of feeling ashamed or embarrassed by my differences, I learned to embrace them. This lesson has served me well throughout my life, as it's helped me to feel confident in who I am and to stand out in a crowd. When faced with a challenge, remember that your uniqueness is your strength. Instead of trying to conform to what others expect of you, embrace what makes you different and use it to your advantage.

Lesson #2: Work Hard

One of the things that my upbringing taught me was the value of hard work. When I was 18, I worked three jobs to save up enough money to escape my mother's lifestyle. While it was tough at times, this experience taught me the value of persistence and determination. When faced with a challenge, it's important to put in the work necessary to overcome it. Whether it's putting in extra hours at work, studying harder for a test, or seeking out new opportunities, hard work is often the key to success.

Lesson #3: Find Your Support System

No one can overcome life's challenges alone. Having a strong support system can make all the difference when facing tough times. For me, my support system has included friends, family, and mentors who have offered me guidance and encouragement when I needed it most. When faced with a challenge, don't be afraid to reach out to others for help. Whether it's seeking advice from a trusted friend, having someone in your corner can help you to feel less alone and more empowered.

Lesson #4: Stay Positive

It's easy to get bogged down by negativity when facing a challenge. However, staying positive can be a powerful tool for overcoming adversity. When I was told that I would never amount to anything, I could have easily let that negativity consume me. Instead, I chose to see it as a challenge and to use it as motivation to prove others wrong. When faced with a challenge, try to maintain a positive outlook. Focus on the opportunities for growth and learning that the challenge presents, and use it as a chance to become a stronger and more resilient person.

Lesson #5: Take Care of Yourself

When facing a challenge, it's easy to neglect your own self-care. However, taking care of yourself is essential for overcoming obstacles and maintaining your mental and physical health. For me, this has meant taking time to exercise, eat well, and for me that is prayer. When facing a challenge, make sure to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. This might mean taking time off from work, spending time reading a good book, or simply taking a few minutes each day to practice self-care.

Life is full of challenges, but with the right mindset and strategies, it's possible to overcome them. Embracing your uniqueness, working hard, finding a support system, staying positive, and taking care of yourself are all key tools for overcoming life's obstacles. As someone who grew up as a child of a hippie, I've learned firsthand the power of these strategies. No matter what challenges you're facing, remember that you're not alone. Everyone faces difficulties at some point in their lives. The key is to stay focused, maintain a positive outlook, and use the lessons you've learned to overcome those challenges.

In addition, don't be afraid to seek out help when you need it. Whether it's from friends, family, or professionals, there's no shame in reaching out for support. It takes strength to admit that you need help, and doing so can make all the difference in your ability to overcome the challenges you're facing.

Finally, remember that challenges can also be opportunities for growth and learning. When faced with a difficult situation, try to see it as a chance to develop new skills, gain new perspectives, and become a stronger person.

Final thoughts, overcoming life's challenges is never easy, but it's possible with the right mindset, strategies, and support. By embracing your uniqueness, working hard, finding a support system, staying positive, and taking care of yourself, you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
